"But we have to celebrate And rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life: he was lost and has been found " —Luke 15:32
Alternative Spring Break Mission
Alternative Spring Break Mission
To SERVE those in need
- This is part of our Christian vocation; we are “Called to Serve.” Mt 25
- This should be worthwhile service; needed and makes a difference
- This should involve interaction with those being served (as far as possible)
To LEARN about the situations of those in need and to explore the SOCIAL JUSTICE dimensions:
- Explore the economic, historical, sociological, circumstances regarding those served at our sites: rural poverty, urban poverty, refugees, etc.
- Be introduced to principles of Catholic Social Teaching
- Engage in the process of dialogue regarding how to address these issues
To put our FAITH into ACTION:
- Reflect on the relationship between our faith and the service of others: Why serve?
- Reflect on the faith experience during the week of service: Where is God in this?
- Reflect on God’s call to life service in each of the participants: What next?
To build COMMUNITY:
- Develop relationships with those being served and with the agency representatives
- Develop relationships with fellow participants
- Why? It is through relationships that we see the face of Christ and are transformed
To have FUN!
- “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
